My Desk

Filed under: Inaka Life, seikatsu, Work — myyearinjapan @ 11:57 pm

This is my desk at work. In Japan, rather than having cubicles, the desks are arranged in clumps called islands (机の島).  You don’t get the same privacy that one would get in an American office but it’s much easier to talk to your co-workers. It’s also easier for you to see what your co-workers are up to and vice versa. My office takes up half of the 4th floor of the building I work in. In one long room, we have 5 islands of desks and one stand alone desk (for the big boss). We also have a table for guests. In the background of the picture below are three additional islands.

My desk. I have a laptop, a calendar (not visible), a tea cup (always need some tea on my desk because I need to stay caffienated), a phone (there are 2 phones between the 5 people who work at this island) and various papers.
