Tachikue Gorge

When I got back to Japan after my short trip to Korea, the leaves were changing color for fall. While the leaves were looking very pretty, I visited Tachikue gorge, in Izumo city. Technically, this site of natural beauty is part of the second largest city in Shimane prefecture. It feels like the middle of nowhere though.

jizo

These are jizo (地蔵), buddhas who watch over children and travelers. They look like they've seen better days.

jizo 2

More jizo watch over the travelers and children who come to this off-the-beaten path gorge. We had to climb into the mountain a ways to get to these jizo, so they are especially off the beaten path.
