Going to Miyajima

Filed under: Chuugoku, Domestic, Trips — myyearinjapan @ 5:04 am

If you’re going to Hiroshima, I highly recommend spending a half day or, better yet, a full day at Miyajima, an island near Hiroshima city. It takes about half an hour to take the train to the port from the main station or for half the price, you can take one of Hiroshima’s street cars to the port. It only takes a little bit longer, about 45 minutes or an hour. From there, you take a quick 15 minute boat ride to the island.

Have you ever seen an advertisement for visiting Japan that shows a red gate floating in the water? That’s Miyajima and that gate is considered one of Japan’s 3 best scenic views. Here are some pictures I took on the ferry to Miyajima. Pictures from the island proper to follow.
