Miyajima Deer

Filed under: Domestic, Trips — myyearinjapan @ 9:45 am

Miyajima is filled with deer. And they are not at all shy. They come right up to tourists demanding food, not unlike seagulls at crowded beaches. When you go to Miyajima, you need to make sure you aren’t holding food or paper down at their level. They’ve been known to go into people’s pockets and eat their train ticket back home. I’ve seen people have their JR pass eaten. The JR pass is the train pass that allows you to ride any train on a JR line, including the bullet train, for 1, 2, or 3 weeks. You’re in trouble if you lose that.
