Vogel Park (March of the Penguins)

Filed under: Domestic, Interesting, Trips — Tags: , , , , , , , , — myyearinjapan @ 12:34 am

Yesterday, I wrote about the waterfowl aviary at Vogel Park. Today, I have some pictures of the most popular thing in the park, the march of the penguins, actually called the penguin’s walk (ペンギンの散歩) in Japanese. I was amazed by how close everyone is allowed to go to the penguins. This kind of attraction would be impossible in the states. If they offered something similar, one kid would surely get too close to the penguins and have his hand bitten, resulting in a lawsuit for the park and an 8 foot fence separating the crowd from the birds. Ah, the joys of a litigious society.

The penguins have come out to play! I believe that this is all the penguins in the park.

Brightly colored bow-ties are all the rage in penguin fashion at the moment. Actually, the penguin's outfits change seasonally. During December, they wear Santa hats.

I hope the penguins aren't claustraphobic because everyone crowds around them twcie a day, every day.

Seriously, this would never fly in the states. This girl kept getting very close to the penguins and each time the trainer would politely ask her to step back, but one minute later, the girl would reach out to try to pet the penguin yet again.
