Have you ever been in an intimate situation and needed protection, but were too embarrassed to go to the store and have the clerk see what you were buying? Well, Japan has a solution for you: condom vending machines. No human interaction necessary.

Korean Vending Machines

Filed under: abroad, Interesting, South Korea, Trips, vending machines — Tags: , , — myyearinjapan @ 3:44 am

In previous posts, I looked at some interesting Japanese vending machines, kits kats in vending machines, and ways to pay for vending machines using your cell phone. Today, I have some pictures of vending machines I saw in South Korea.

drink machine

This drink machine doesn't have too many options. Even if it were full it wouldn't have many options.

This one looks more like the ones I'm used to seeing in Japan.

food machine

This vending machine sells food. There aren't too many options here, but I like how they filled the rest of the space on the front of the machine instead of leaving it blank.

book machine

And finally, my favorite machine, the book vending machine! I found this on the train platform in the subway station. I wonder why they decided to place it here. Is it for people with long commutes? Or perhaps it has to do with the fact that there are several universities near this subway stop.

Check your IQ on your way home! Only 2,000 won (or about 2 USD).

Kit Kats – in vending machines

Filed under: Interesting, Kit Kat Flavors, Strange, vending machines — myyearinjapan @ 4:17 am

Going along with my recent Kit Kat theme, I have some pictures I took of Kit Kats being sold in vending machines. That may not seem so strange at first, but what’s weird is that the Kit Kats are sold in BEVERAGE vending machines in GLASS JARS.

Paying by Cell Phone for a Vending Machine

Filed under: Interesting, seikatsu, vending machines — myyearinjapan @ 12:52 am

So, I won ‘t have any more of the Yamanote line posts for a while because I haven’t taken the other half of the pictures yet. And I don’t predict that I ‘ll be able to put those pictures up until some time in January. In the meantime, I’ll put up pictures from other things.

On this vending machine, you can pay with your cell phone. Most cell phones allow you to put money on an account attached to the phone (like a debit account). You can then use the money for the train, vending machines, and some stores. You simply have to swipe the phone over a sensor and the money is automatically deducted.

Vending machines

Filed under: Interesting, Strange, vending machines — myyearinjapan @ 9:31 am

Japan has vending machines for all kinds of things. Of course, it has the expected drink vending machines and food vending machines. (Although, unlike in the states, the drink vending machines don’t just sell soda and water. They also sell various teas, canned coffee, and alcohol too.) I also see a lot of ice cream vending machines and cigarette vending machines. I’ve heard of (but never seen) all sorts of vending machines selling things such as fresh flowers or groceries. If I ever see one of these, I’ll certainly post pictures here.

These are a couple of the interesting vending machines that I have seen.
